Many companies are good, only a few companies are GREAT. In this episode I am going to talk about a book called "From Good to Great", by Jim Collins. In the book, the author studied companies that were able to outperform all the others, in order to figure out WHY and HOW these companies had so much success. He breaks down a few certain principles all these great companies followed that led them to become leaders in their market. This week’s Ted Talk Tuesday is on a short talk that could bring some needed transformation to your business meetings. The idea could actually be used for English classes too. I USED TO do what the speaker in this Ted Talk recommends with my students back in Brazil. And now with technology it could be done anywhere, anytime! So summarizing here, Nilofer Merchant suggests a small idea that just might have a big impact on your life and health: Next time you have a one-on-one meeting, make it into a “walking meeting” — and let ideas flow while you walk and talk. Listen to this episode of the Feel Good English podcast and learn a big idea, and some new English. Get the FREE transcript at www.feelgoodenglish.com/episodes

If you have been learning English for a long time, you have heard of phrasal verbs. And you most likely have had problems with them too. But there is something I have seen many English learners do that makes phrasal verbs much more difficult than they need to be. And there is a simple "fix" for this. In this week's episode I answer a question I got from a couple listeners on "How to learn phrasal verbs." I know this is a common problem with many if you, and I have an opinion on how to make them less stressful Listen to this episode and make your life better. Making decisions is part of daily life. What should I have for breakfast? What career path should I take? What English program is going to help me become fluent faster? Sometimes we struggle with making the "right" decision, especially when there are big life choices to be considered. Fortunately, making the right decisions is a skill that can be developed. As discussed in the book "Decisive", by Dan and Chip Heath, various factors contribute to making bad decisions. Through deep research, the authors have found factors that contribute to making poor choices, but if we recognize these factors and learn how to avoid them when making decisions we can feel more confident about the decisions we make. Learn how to be a better decision maker on this episode of the Feel Good English podcast.

How do you become an effective English speaker? This is a question I have been asked more than once, for sure. And I understand why. When I had reached an intermediate level of Portuguese, I remember thinking that I needed to become much more "precise" with my speaking. It felt like I was saying the same things over and over, and it would take me too long to develop what I wanted to say. Eventually I got past this phase, and became the confident speaker I knew I could become. What did I do to become more effective? The answer might not be what you think, and it is easier than you might expect. In this episode, discover what it takes to become the English speaker you know you can become too. If you're like me, it can seem like you have way too many things that you either want to do or "have" to do. And with your English learning, you might not be sure about what area to focus on, what vocab to learn, what skill to develop, etc... I find myself constantly feeling like I am behind on the things I am trying to accomplish. It's just one thing after the other. Should I do this or that? What will bring me the biggest result? Which direction should I follow? Am I wasting my time on this? It can be frustrating! The book The One Thing, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, goes deep into the topic of finding the most important thing to focus on in all aspects of life. It could be a specific project you're working on, a new skill, or a life dream. Through looking at all situations from a macro and micro level, meaning what's the best next-step now right now and for the long term, and asking yourself something called the "focus question", the book offers great insight into how to achieve more success in life and business. This book really is a must-read! Get the free transcript at http://www.feelgoodenglish.com/one-thing/

Want to know how to succeed? According to this Ted speaker, sleeping more can help. In this small talk with a "big idea", Ariana Huffington shares what she thinks can help you be more effective and creative in life and business. I recorded this episode a bit different than the other Ted Talk Tuesday episodes. In this one I will go through the short talk (3-minutes) and explain the vocab and expressions she uses while I am discussing the talk itself. Why am I doing it like this? You could consider this a shorter, more "English focused" lesson. But hopefully not boring! I hate boring English lessons like I hate waiting in lines (I guess because it's boring too). So the idea is for you to learn some new words and expressions while also getting some quick tips on how to live a better life, and develop a better English. Do you have problems memorizing ne vocabulary or information? I know I do. And what about not forgetting them after you learn them? Well, that can be difficult too. I personally have struggled with learning new information, especially when you have to memorize long lists and foreign vocabulary. And that is exactly what one listener wanted to know. In this episode I am going to talk about a fun method that I have used to memorize information. It definitely isn't boring, difficult or traditional, and it works! And you will even hear me do a little singing and rapping, in the worst way. :) Get FREE TRANSCRIPTS and learn more at www.feelgoodenglish.com

Do you feel overwhelmed, swamped, and just too busy? Sometimes we have so many things to do we think we will never be able to finish everything. We also can spend days, weeks and even months "thinking" about doing important tasks but constantly feeling anxious because we never actually do them. This episode is on a book that I NEEDED TO READ. With so many things to do with the new podcast, website, etc.., I need to learn how to tackle the most important tasks first thing in the morning, and get "addicted" to the feeling you get after completing your most valuable, important task (the frog). The book Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy is great! It has helped me get focused on the right things, and I am sure it can help you decide which tasks need to be done first, to bring the most success and happiness into your life.
